Why I decided to start my own travel blog

Introduction

A quick introduction to explain why I chose to start my own travel blog and what you can expect to find here…

My back story…

Quick run down of me…I’m Ffion, a Welsh traveller who is always trippin’ around the world (I swear I spend most of my time googling flight and hotels!).

I’ve been very fortunate to have travelled from a young age and this has carried into adulthood. My favourite type of holiday is a city break, especially within Europe (it is by far my favourite continent!) and whenever I can, I try to get away for a few days. I love spending a long weekend somewhere in Europe and visiting the best attractions. I especially like finding places a bit off the beaten track and try to avoid visiting capital cities. Living in the UK means that I have access to a lot of low-cost airlines and try to take advantage of this whenever possible!

Did someone say theme parks?

My other favourite type of holiday is visiting theme parks! Theme parks provide a way of escaping reality, especially if the theming of the park is insanely good, I’m looking at you Hogwarts in Universal Studios Orlando! I work full-time and so always have to plan my travels around my job. Since graduating with a degree in French & Italian, I fell into the world of technology, a place I never thought I’d get a job, but here I am years later. I now work in product development and help build incredible digital products for users. Up until last year, I had worked predominantly in the fintech sector and realised how miserable I was. I loved product management but hated the sector. I did a lot of discovery work on myself and set out to find a career and an industry that I love and at the start of this year, I made it happen…

Aligning my passions to my career…

I landed a role in an attractions-tech company and now work with some of the biggest names in theme parks and zoos worldwide. I honestly can’t believe how lucky I am to now work in this industry every day. I’m really proud that I’ve found a way to align my personal passions with my corporate career and am loving it! I hope to bring a lot of this knowledge to my blog and my businesses.

So why start a blog?

Firstly I wanted a place where I could come to write about my experiences and also think that writing may be therapeutic for my mental health. I often don’t take time to realise how fortunate I am to visit these places and so documenting them, and sharing these experiences with you means that I get to share my knowledge and (hopefully!) build a community.

Lots of people have come to me asking for travel advice and inspiration and I wanted a place where I could write about this. Since being married, most of my travels are with my husband and/or friends, so you can expect lots of travel itineraries suited to this style of travel, but this could change in future!

Let’s get down to business…

First and foremost, this blog is to document our travels and share the best content with you.

I will, however, be looking at ways to monetise and to set up multiple travel-based businesses. I’ve been working on a business strategy for the overall brand so stay tuned for more updates!

Conclusion – thanks for reading this far!

That’s enough about me personally, here’s a taste of what you can expect from my blog:

  • Destination guides and travel itineraries on how to make the best out of a limited time in a city or destination
  • The best theme parks zoos and attractions to see
  • No travel would be complete without sampling local food and drink so will be delving more into this
  • Budgeting tips for keeping a low-cost city break..well…low-cost!
